Minor Arcana

The Minor Arcana in tarot consists of 56 cards divided into four suits: Wands, Cups, Swords, and Pentacles. Each suit represents a different aspect of life and has 14 cards (Ace through Ten, plus four court cards: Page, Knight, Queen, and King). These cards focus on everyday events, challenges, and experiences, contrasting with the Major Arcana’s broader, archetypal themes.

  • Wands: Associated with fire, creativity, passion, and action. They reflect ambition, energy, and personal growth. Example: Ace of Wands signifies new beginnings or inspiration.
  • Cups: Linked to water, emotions, relationships, and intuition. They deal with love, feelings, and inner experiences. Example: Two of Cups often represents partnership or romance.
  • Swords: Tied to air, intellect, conflict, and decision-making. They address mental struggles, truth, and clarity. Example: Three of Swords can indicate heartbreak or betrayal.
  • Pentacles: Connected to earth, material matters, work, and stability. They focus on finances, health, and practical concerns. Example: Nine of Pentacles suggests abundance or self-sufficiency.

Each suit’s numbered cards (Ace to Ten) show a progression of energy or experience, from initiation (Ace) to completion (Ten). Court cards typically represent people, personalities, or aspects of the querent’s life:

  • Pages: New ideas, youth, or messages.
  • Knights: Action, pursuit, or intensity.
  • Queens: Mastery, nurturing, or inner strength.
  • Kings: Authority, control, or leadership.

In readings, Minor Arcana cards provide specific, grounded insights, often detailing the “how” or “what” of a situation, while their suit and number add nuance. Their meanings can shift based on position (past, present, future) and surrounding cards.
